The Power Of Six /Booktrack

Over three weeks in late July/early August I was hired to compose the main theme and additional music to Booktrack's production of 'The Power Of Six' by Pitacus Lore. (This is the follow up to his very successful novel 'I Am Number Four' which was recently adapted as a feature film )
It has been released this week and you can see the 'trailer' for the Booktrack experience here:
It was a great challenge to compose for this medium where there is no fixed or absolute reference, such as there is in film/tv and even theatre. There is no dialogue and one must take into account that everyone who engages with this application will have different reading speeds. This makes the idea of creating, for example, a music cue that 'builds tension' a rather interesting proposition...and a challenge that I thoroughly enjoyed.
You can hear some of the cues I created here.
The technology that Booktrack have developed is pretty astounding and makes for a totally immersive experience of text, sound and music.
As stated on their website, Booktrack; "...represents a new chapter in the evolution of storytelling, and an industry "first" in publishing, by creating synchronized soundtracks for e-books that dramatically boost the reader's imagination and engagement. The company's proprietary technology combines music, sound effects and ambient sound, automatically paced to an individual's reading speed. Funded by investors including, Peter Thiel, co-founder and former CEO of PayPal, and member of Facebook's board of directors -- and in partnership with the largest publishing houses, best-selling authors, and award-winning composers and musicians -- Booktrack is already well on its way to creating a new genre of entertainment.
